While many college graduates continue to make foreign-funded enterprises their first job choice, more managerial professionals are choosing to work with state- owned or private enterprises, the Workers Daily reports on Tuesday.

According to the paper, an accountant surnamed Xue, who shifted earlier this year from a solely foreign-invested company to an indigenous private enterprise in Shanghai, said that he was confident about his choice although he earns less now.

Mr. Xue said, "In foreign-invested companies, however high your position is, you feel like a tool. With a glass ceiling there, most Chinese employees have to spend a lot time dealing with clerical work and it's hard for us to take up those really important positions."

The paper attributed the trend to a number of factors including pay and conditions, job satisfaction and career development potential.

Experts on human resources with the Fudan University said that after China's entry to the World Trade Organization, many indigenous enterprises began to realize the importance of human resources and adopted measures to attract first-class professionals.
