11th Panchen Lama Goes Sight-seeing in Xigaze
Bainqen Erdini Qoigyijabu, the 11th Panchen Lama, had high praise for projects built with the help of other provinces when he looked around the city of Xigaze in Tibet Tuesday.

The 13-year-old 11th Panchen Lama visited the Shandong Mansion, Shanghai gymnasium and other major projects built in the city with the help of other parts of China.

When he arrived at the Shanghai Gymnasium this morning, the giant electronic screen read, "11th Panchen Lama, Warmly Welcome to Shanghai Gymnasium."

The building, which accommodates 10,000 spectators at a time, is the most advanced gymnasium in Tibet. It was built at a cost of 28 million yuan (3.4 million U.S. dollars) provided by Shanghai in 1998.

The 11th Panchen Lama also visited the Tibet Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., Tibet Museum and the houses of some local farmers. He expects the Tibetan people to strengthen national unity and appreciate the joys of modern life.
