China's capital Beijing saw its exports increase by a slight 0.8 percent in the first five months of this year to 1.98 billion U.S. dollars, according to the latest statistics released by customs authorities.

Exports by the processing trade reduced by 14.6 percent in the first five months to 1.06 billion dollars, though they still accounted for more than half of Beijing's exports.

General trade produced exports worth 840 million dollars in the same period, up 20.6 percent over the same period last year.

Exports to Asian countries totaled 1.09 billion dollars, up 6.9 percent year on year, but exports to Europe declined.

Exports to the Republic of Korea shot up 63.2 percent to hit 200 million dollars.

Exports by state-owned enterprises maintained a steady growth, increasing by 9 percent to 660 million dollars.

Exports by the hi-tech sector dropped by a sharp 22.3 percent to stand at 760 million dollars, thanks to a worldwide depression in the information technology industry.
