Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) decided Thursday to suspend former Foreign Minister Makiko Tanaka from the party over misuse of the state-paid salaries of her secretaries.

According to Kyodo News, members of the LDP Ethics Committee said they decided to suspend Tanaka for two years, making it unlikely the House of Representatives member will run in a next election as an LDP candidate.

The decision came as senior LDP members accused Tanaka of failing to adequately clear up the allegations reported in the weekly magazines Shukan Shincho and Shukan Bunshun in April.
