Taiwan'S Large-sized TFT-LCD Production Up

The shipment of Taiwan made large-sized thin film transistor liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) panels exceeded that of South Korea for the first time in the first quarter, accounting for 38.5 percent of world market share, according to the American research organization Display Search, Taiwan media reported on Thursday.

The shipment of Taiwan made large-sized thin film transistor liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) panels exceeded that of South Korea for the first time in the first quarter, accounting for 38.5 percent of world market share, according to the American research organization Display Search, Taiwan media reported on Thursday.

The global production of large-sized (more than 10 inches) TFT-LCD panels totaled 16.1 million units in the first quarter, with sales reaching 4.1 billion U.S. dollars, a growth of 20 percent over the fourth quarter of last year, the statistics show.

In general, the TFT-LCD panels produced by South Korean's Samsung still led the world in the first quarter, accounting for 16.9 percent of global production.

Four Taiwan TFT-LCD panel manufacturers, including AU Optronicsand HannStar, are on the list of world's top ten producers.
