The capital city of south China's Guangdong Province will encourage foreign investment to enter its intermediary business, Vice Mayor Shen Bainian said Thursday.

The city would invite well-known foreign intermediary agencies to set up offices in Guangzhou, in an effort to boost trade to meet international competition and WTO standards.

Shen said the municipal government would put forward preferencepolicies to attract industry experts. It would also streamline procedures for examining and approving future applicants.

Government statistics show that Guangzhou, with 227 employment agencies, has the biggest intermediary market for human resources in southern China. It has the third largest number of lawyers in the country after Beijing and Shanghai.
