Military leaders of China and
Colombia
agreed Saturday to increase exchanges and cooperation between their armed forces.
The consensus was reached between Fu Quanyou, chief of general staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), and Fernando Tapias, commander-in-chief of the armed forces of Columbia, at a meeting here.
Fu, also a member of the Central Military Commission, said that great progress has been made in friendly cooperation in political, economic, military and cultural fields since the two countries forged diplomatic relations 22 years ago.
The development of ties between the two armed forces is in the fundamental interests of the two peoples. The PLA is ready to work with the Colombian armed forces to make further contributions to multi-level, multi-arena exchanges and cooperation, he said.
Tapias, who was impressed by China's progress since his last visit in 1999, said he is also willing to continue to work for further development of friendly cooperative ties between the two armed forces.
