Tibetan Leader Meets Mexican Politician
Legqog, chairman of the Tibet Autonomous Region, met in Lhasa Saturday with visiting Mexican Secretary of Foreign Relations Jorge G. Castaneda.

Autonomous Region, met in Lhasa Saturday with visiting Mexican Secretary of Foreign Relations Jorge G. Castaneda.
Legqog briefed Castaneda on the region's development. He said Tibet had made great progress under the leadership of the central government with its own efforts and help from other provinces.
Tibet at present has 1010 schools housing 400,000 students and 87 percent of its children are receiving schooling. The region also boasts 140,000 fixed-line phones, 120,000 mobile phones and over 5,000 internet users.
Castaneda said he was deeply impressed by Tibet's beautiful scenery, free religious venues and hospitable people.
"I've seen with my own eyes a flourishing Tibet," he said.
Castaneda started his five-day visit on Wednesday.
