Jiang Makes Four-point Proposal for Sino-Kyrgyzstan Ties

President Jiang Zemin Monday made a four-point proposal for boosting the development of Sino-Kyrgyzstan relation when meeting Kyrgyzstan President Askar Akayev Monday in Beijing.

Chinese President Jiang Zemin Monday made a four-point proposal for boosting the development of Sino-Kyrgyzstan relations.

Jiang presented his proposal to visiting Kyrgyzstan President Askar Akayev in talks held at the Great Hall of the People.

Jiang called on the two governments to maintain high-level contacts and dialogue, enhance mutual trust, and deepen friendship so as to create a good political atmosphere and conditions for the growth of bilateral ties.

He urged the two countries to promote cooperation between public security, security, defence and other law enforcement departments, and set up stable cooperative mechanisms for safeguarding security and stability in the two countries and the whole region.

Jiang said that the two countries could also take advantage of geographical vicinity to tap the potential in economic cooperationand raise economic cooperation and trade to a new level.

He proposed that the two countries expand and deepen exchanges and cooperation in cultural, educational, sports and other areas so as to form a solid foundation of bilateral friendship for future generations.

This year marked the 10th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Kyrgyzstan. Akayev commended the growth and consolidation of bilateral ties over the past decade and said the two countries had laid a foundation for future development on the basis of mutual trust and equality.

Presidents Hail Bilateral Ties

The two presidents hailed the growth of bilateral ties during the past decade in talks.

The two heads of state also signed a good-neighbor, friendship and cooperation pact after the official talks at the Great Hall ofthe People.

Akayev is here for a working visit as Jiang's guest. It was thesecond meeting between the two heads of state since the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization held in St. Petersburg earlier this month.

According to Jiang, the two countries shared identical stances on cracking down the "three vices" of terrorism, extremism and separatism, and had close cooperation in other regional and globalissues concerning security and stability.

China considered Kyrgyzstan a good neighbor, friend and partnerand the pact would guide the future development of bilateral ties with a legal framework, he said.

Akayev described his visit as "an opportunity" for the two countries to review the past and open a new future. After successfully resolving mutual border issues, he hoped the border would be a bond of long-term peace, friendship and mutual cooperation.
