Afghan President Hamid Karzai Monday presided over the swearing-in ceremony of his cabinet at the presidential palace.
About half of the 28 ministers belong to the Northern Alliance, which swept the Taliban from power last year, with Karzai largely sticking to the same formula of the interim government set up by the U.N.-sponsored Bonn accord in December.
Only hours before the ceremony, former Interior Minister Yunis Qanuni decided to accept the dual roles of education minister and presidential adviser on security affairs, an aide said.
Karzai announced his full cabinet on Saturday except for two positions -- justice and women's affairs. The justice portfolio was eventually given to incumbent Abdul Rahim Karimi, but the women's portfolio had yet to be decided.
The makeup has been seen as crucial to reconciling the country'straditionally warring tribes and leading the country out of 23 years of war and towards elections in 18 months time.
