Iran Hopes to Further Enhance Relations with Ethiopia

Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi on Monday expressed his country's willingness to further enhance relations with Ethiopia in the political and economic spheres.

Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi on Monday expressed his country's willingness to further enhance relations with Ethiopia in the political and economic spheres.

Iran has been conducting a series of consultations with its Ethiopian counterpart on ways of further strengthening the existing trade and investment relations between the two countries,said Kharrazi at a press conference here after holding talks with Ethiopian Foreign Minister Seyoum Mesfin.

He described his talks with his Ethiopian counterpart as "fruitful," saying that both sides have reach consensus on the regional issues including Somalia and the southern Sudan.

Kharrazi also paid tribute to the international community for offering assistance to Iran in the wake of an earthquake hit in the west of his country.

At the conference, Seyoum said both sides exchanged views on ways of ensuring durable peace and stability in Somalia.

During the talks, he also stressed the importance of Iranian role in the efforts geared to establish the African Union.

Later on Monday afternoon, the Iranian foreign minister delivered a speech at the invitation of the Ethiopian Institute for Peace and Development on the foreign policy toward Africa.
