Chinese Defense Minister Meets Thai Guests

Chinese Defense Minister Chi Haotian met Tuesday with Narong Yuthavong, supreme commander of the Thailand armed forces.

Chinese Defense Minister Chi Haotian met Tuesday with Narong Yuthavong, supreme commander of the Thailand armed forces.

Chi, also vice chairman of the Central Military Commission and a state councilor, said "China and Thailand are good neighbors anda good example of friendly co-existence between countries with different social systems."

He said that Sino-Thai relations, based on the five principles of peaceful co-existence and equality and mutual benefit, have played important roles in promoting regional peace, stability and prosperity.

Chi expressed gratitude for the support of the Thai government towards China on the issues of Taiwan, Tibet, Falun Gong and humanrights as well as China's entry to the World Trade Organization.

The defense minister said that the militaries of the two countries have conducted fruitful cooperation. The Chinese and Thai defense ministries have established a mechanism for regular security meetings, which gives impetus to Sino-Thai relations.

Narong expressed gratitude for China's assistance to Thailand, and said that he and his country value the friendship with China. He hoped that the existing friendly relations between the militaryof China and Thailand would develop further in this century.
