Guangdong Customs Uncover Major Drug Ring

Customs officers in Guangdong Province seized over 375 kg of heroin last month, when they cracked a major drug-trafficking network in Dongguan and Guangzhoucities.

Customs officers in Guangdong Province seized over 375 kg of heroin last month, when they cracked a major drug-trafficking network in Dongguan and Guangzhoucities.

It is the largest-ever seizure of drugs by Chinese customs, according to official sources.

Twenty-five suspects including a Hong Kong citizen were arrested for possessing 375 kg of heroin, 1,947 kg of methyl ephedrine, 54.5 g of crystal methamphetamine (commonly known as "ice"), 25 kg of caffeine, and a military pistol and 35 bullets.

The customs also captured four fishing vessels, six cars, and 3.26 million yuan (392,770 U.S. dollars) and 7.63 million HK dollars(978,200 U.S. dollars) in cash from the suspects.

Customs officers were alerted to the ring on January 18 and began arresting suspects on May 9.
