The consolidation of friendly Sino- Kenyan relations serves the fundamental interests of the two peoples, said Fu Quanyou, chief of the General Staff of the People 's Liberation Army (PLA) of China, Wednesday.

Fu made the remarks in talks with Joseph Kibwana, chief of the General Staff of the Kenyan Armed Forces, who is here on a six-day visit at the invitation of Fu.

With a long history of friendship, China and Kenya shared common ground on many important international issues, and gave consistent support to each other in international affairs, said Fu.

The Chinese government appreciated Kenya's adherence to the one- China stance, its support for China's reunification and its enduring support in human rights issues, he said.

Relations between the two armed forces had also progressed satisfactorily in recent years, Fu said, noting that the PLA attached great importance to friendship with the Kenyan Armed Forces, and was willing to push forward military exchanges and cooperation.

Fu briefed Kibwana on China's views on international issues, its diplomatic and military policies and the domestic economy and military modernization.

Kibwana said China contributed a lot to world peace and development and was a country of great influence. Kenya appreciated China's long support and aid, and hoped to consolidate friendly cooperation in political, economic and military fields, he noted.
