The Sixth China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT), sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, is to be held on September8-11 in Xiamen, a scenic city in east China's Fujian Province.

This was announced in Beijing Thursday by the organizing committee at a promotional symposium. Governments at provincial level throughout China and relevant state ministries and commissions will also attend the CIFIT as affiliates to promote their investment projects and products.

Shen Danyang, who is in charge of CIFIT's preparatory work, said the CIFIT is the sole national event for the promotion of international investment with focus on foreign direct investments.Governments and investment promotion organizations as well as enterprises throughout the world are invited to attend the fair, he said.

The previous five fairs each had 50,000-plus business people taking part and with 10,536 contracts being signed and total contractual foreign investments amounting to 56.5 billion U.S. dollars, he said.

Centered on the expansion of the opening-up after China's accession to the World Trade Organization as well as encouraging Chinese enterprises to invest abroad, the CIFIT will include international investment forums and special seminars, he said.

CIFIT will combine investment with trade, exhibitions with negotiations, project promotions with policy consultations, and commercial activities with academic symposiums, furnishing participants with a full range of services, he said.

The organizing committee estimated that more overseas businessmen will come to the fair than have done at past sessions, since the number of investors as well as small and medium-sized enterprises which have registered has increased greatly, and about100 economic delegations plan to participate.
