China to Host APEC Medium/small Enterprises Technology Conference

Qingdao, a coastal city in east China's Shandong Province, will host the Third APEC Medium & Small Enterprises Technology Conference and Fair from June 6 to 10 of 2003.

Qingdao, a coastal city in east China's Shandong Province, will host the Third APEC Medium & Small Enterprises Technology Conference and Fair from June 6 to 10 of 2003.

Government officials, entrepreneurs and industrial representatives from all 21 member economies of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) will attend the conference. Medium andsmall firms are welcome to attend, Huang Shuhe, vice-minister of the State Economic and Trade Commission (SETC), said at a press conference here Thursday.

The SETC-sponsored conference will focus on the exchange of practical technology used by small businesses.

The fair will have 1,000 stands, half for overseas firms and half for domestic ones. Displays will cover sectors such as agricultural machinery, electronic and communication equipment manufacturing, foodstuff processing and textile.

Huang said that APEC is one of the most important regional cooperative organizations in the Asia-Pacific region and China attaches great importance to cooperation with APEC members and to taking part in APEC activities.

Cooperation between medium and small businesses is important in APEC. In the Asia Pacific region, medium and small businesses account for 95 percent of all businesses and provide 80 percent ofjobs and 35 percent of exports.

The preparatory committee has opened a website www.apec-qingdao.com.cn to publicize the conference and the fair, Huang said.
