Another Moderate Quake Hits Northern Iran

An earthquake measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale jolted northern Iran, which is still reeling from a killer tremor, the state-run IRNA news agency reported on Thursday.

An earthquake measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale jolted northern Iran, which is still reeling from a killer tremor, the state-run IRNA news agency reported on Thursday.

The quake hit Qazvin Province at 22:48 local time (1818 GMT) Wednesday night. There is no report of injuries or damages.

A devastating tremor measuring 6.0 on the open-ended Richard scale, with its epicenter located at Bouin Zahra in Qazvin Province, shook northern and western Iran on Saturday.

At least 238 people lost lives and over 1,300 others were injured in the disaster. More than 25,000 people have been affectedacross eight provinces. The quake also caused damages to 26,000 houses.

Iran embraces a number of quake-prone zones. In 1990, an earthquake of 7 plus magnitude hit northern provinces of Zanjan andGilan, leaving tens of thousands of people dead.
