The Israeli army blew up on Saturday parts of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) security headquarters in the West Bank town of Hebron, where unconfirmed reports said that 15 militants who were holed up inside the building and refused to surrender were killed.

Palestinian witnesses said that two blasts, one late on Friday and the other early on Saturday, flattened the fortress-like stone building and sent flames shooting into the sky.

There were no reports on casualties. However, unconfirmed Israeli and Palestinian sources said it was likely the 15 militants were buried under the rubble after the Israeli army military engineers had detonated explosives to destroy the structure.

The witnesses said a massive blast had shattered the police headquarters on Friday after Israeli troops were seen entering the building.

They said they saw soldiers with flashlights moving inside the headquarters some four hours after the explosion while army vehicles brought up reinforcements.

Hebron is the seventh West Bank city to be reoccupied by the Israeli army, which has placed more than 600,000 Palestinians under curfew after a series of suicide bombings.

Israeli troops surrounded the building early Tuesday as part of the renewed military offensive aimed at stemming the wave of armed attacks against Israeli civilians.
