Rice Crops Hit by Insects in DPRK

Damage caused by the crop- destroying insect, lissorhoptrus oryzophilus, is spreading across the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

Damage caused by the crop- destroying insect, lissorhoptrus oryzophilus, is spreading across the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

According to officials of the DPRK Ministry of Agriculture, because of a lack of pesticide 85 percent of rice fields throughout the country are now hit by these insects.

Rice plant damage caused by the infestation of rice water weevil, Lissorhoptrus oryzophilus, in direct sowing cultivation of rice.

The most seriously affected areas are the fields on the west and east coasts, where the number of insects has doubled since the same period last year.
