Mess Officer Wang An is whipping up some culinary treats for soldiers of his company of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) over the next week -- on his computer.

"It's very easy for me to do the job now," says Wang, pointing to the computer. "Thanks to this machine, soldiers now can have their meals prepared in a scientific way."

There are more than 10,000 kinds of dishes and staple foods stored in the system, which helps people like Wang choose a propermenu for soldiers.

This menu-choosing software is being widely used in the PLA. Itis called "electronic nutritionist" by officers and soldiers.

According to an officer from the General Logistics department of the PLA, the software was developed by the PLA Military Economics Institute.
