Investigators have discovered two vehicles that are believed to have transported bodies from the gold mine explosion in north China's Shanxi Province on June 22.

But no bodies have been found, investigators said.

Suspects, including pit contractor Wang Quanquan and mine contractor Yin Shan, are still being sought by the police on suspicion of hiding bodies and giving a false death toll to authorities, said Gong Anku, head of the provincial production safety administration, who is responsible for coordinating the investigation.

At least three miners were confirmed dead out of 40 believed to have been working underground when an explosion ripped through Yixingzhai Gold Mine in Fanzhi County on June 22.

Local authorities have made all-out efforts to save the lives of the four injured and recover the remaining 34.

The majority of the casualties are farmers from Xunyang and Langao counties of the neighboring Shaanxi Province. Over 90 relatives of the miners arrived in Fanzhi County after the accident.

The accident has aroused concerns among officials in the province, who urged relevant departments to clarify the causes of the accident and arrest the suspects at an early date.

An investigation team of the State Administration for Safe Production Supervision arrived at the gold mine early Sunday morning.
