Shenzhen to Grant Honorary Citizen Title to Over US$5m Investors

The municipal government of Shenzhen will confer the title of "Honorary Citizen" to qualifiers who have made great contributions to local economic and social development from July 1, 2002 on.

The municipal government of Shenzhen will confer the title of "Honorary Citizen" to qualifiers who have made great contributions to local economic and social development from July 1, 2002 on.

According to concerned rules lately released by the municipal government of Shenzhen, the qualifiers are as follows:

  • Who have made great contribution for Shenzhen's construction in external exchanges, economy and trade, education, legal system;

  • Who have introduced capital, talents, technologies, and equipment and gained obvious economic and social benefits in Shenzhen;

  • Who have invested US$30bn in common projects or US$5bn in high-tech projects in Shenzhen for over ten years;

  • Direct investors of export enterprises with an export volume of over US$100bn in 2001;

  • Direct investors of high-tech enterprises with an investment of over US$10bn;

  • Donators of over HK$5m to social welfare work in Shenzhen

    All qualifiers both Chinese nations and foreigners thus honored will be approved by the People's Congress of Shenzhen. The municipal government of Shenzhen specially grants the honorary citizens preferential treatment and due benefits as medial care, exemption of entry and exit procedures, etc.
