Chinese Vice-Premier Wu Bangguo met Monday with visiting German Economic Minister Werner Mueller. The two exchanged ideas for further strengthening and expanding bilateral economic and trade relations.

Wu said Sino-German cooperation is progressing smoothly in all areas and has borne fruit. The "one-China" policy insisted on by the German government has laid a solid foundation for the healthy development of bilateral relations. German has become China's biggest economic and trading partner. There is still great potential for bilateral trade relations.

The China's Tenth Five Year Plan and the country's strategy of developing the western area will provide more opportunities for the two countries to expand economic and trade cooperation. Wu encouraged German enterprises to increase their investment in China and participate in the development of the western area.

Mueller said the German government is satisfied with the smoothdevelopment of bilateral economic and trade relations and is willing to further promote cooperation between German and Chinese enterprises. Germans in economic circles admire China's impressiveeconomic development and are willing to take part in the development of China's western area.
