Local police in north China's Shanxi Province have detained seven suspects who are engaged in attempting to cover up evidences of a fatal gold mine explosion by hiding away dead bodies from the accident, "China Youth Daily" reported Tuesday.

The police are also going all out to hunt for the gold mine owner and foreman who are still at large, said the newspaper.

On June 22, a large explosion took place at Yixingzhai Gold Mine, Fanzhi County of Xinzhou City, Shanxi Province.

Up to now, 37 remains (including four cremated) had been found of the 40 miners believed to have been working underground when the explosion occurred at the gold mine, the newspaper quoted sources from Shanxi Provincial Bureau of Public Security as saying.

These dead bodies were buried in five separate places before they were discovered by the police, said the sources.

Sixty relatives of the victims killed in the explosion have arrived at Fanzhi County and confirmation of the dead bodies, most of which are decayed, will soon start, said local sources.

Previous reports from the mine owner said that only two people had been killed and four injured and 34 others had escaped the blast.
