Chinese Leader Greets Albania's President-Elect

Chinese President Jiang Zemin has congratulated Alfred Moisiu on his election as Albania's new president.

Chinese President Jiang Zemin has congratulated Alfred Moisiu on his election as Albania's new president.

In a congratulatory message to Moisiu on Monday, Jiang said Chinese and Albanian peoples have a profound traditional friendship.

"Since the establishment of their diplomatic ties 50 years ago,the two nations have witnessed continuous improvement in their relations," he added.

Jiang expressed the belief that the friendly and cooperative ties between China and Albania will certainly be further enhanced during Moisiu's presidency.

Moisiu was elected as the new president by the Albanian parliament People's Assembly on June 24, 2002.
