China's Defense Minister Meets Turkmenistan Guests

Chinese Defense Minister Chi Haotian met in Beijing Friday with Lieutenant General Serdar Chariyarov, first deputy-defense minister and chief of general staff of the Turkmenistan armed forces, and his party.

Chinese Defense Minister Chi Haotian met in Beijing Friday with Lieutenant General Serdar Chariyarov, first deputy-defense minister and chief of general staff of the Turkmenistan armed forces, and his party.

Chi, also vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission and a state councilor, said China and Turkmenistan highly valued theirtraditional friendship and had cooperated well in various fields since the forging of their diplomatic ties.

China attached importance to developing its all-round friendly and cooperative ties, including military contacts, with Turkmenistan, an important central Asian nation, he said. This notonly served the fundamental interest of the people of both countries but boosted peace and stability in central Asia and the world at large.

Chariyarov said Turkmenistan hoped to learn from China in military structuring and was ready to cement their military exchanges and cooperation with China in all fields.
