Two Egyptian envoys will visit Israel and the Palestinian self-ruled areas on Sunday to help defuse the current Mideast tensions, Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Maher told Xinhua on Saturday in Cairo.

"During their visit to Israel, the two envoys will meet with Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Foreign Minister Shimon Peres on what should be done to overcome the current crisis," Mahersaid.

While in the Palestinian self-ruled areas, the envoys will talk to Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat on the latest situation in the occupied lands and discuss with Palestinian officials positive and negative aspects of US President George W. Bush's Mideast policy speech.

On Monday, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak revealed that he will soon send envoys to Israel and the Palestinian lands to help solve the Mideast crisis.

He said he would send his envoys to Israel and the Palestinian National Authority, "because the situation can not go on like this."

"I am afraid that future complications might lead to chaos in the region," Mubarak told reporters.

He also stressed the importance of finding a mechanism for implementing ideas set out in Bush's speech.

On June 24, Bush made what many Arabs called a pro-Israel speech, during which he conditioned the creation of a Palestinian state on the change of the current Palestinian leadership led by Arafat.

Earlier in the day, Israeli public radio reported that Sharon will meet with Mubarak's political advisor Osama al-Baz and Egyptian intelligence chief Omar Suleiman on Sunday.

Mubarak sent Baz to Israel and the Palestinian self-ruled areas in May.

Egypt, the first Arab country to sign a peace treaty with Israelin 1979, has been playing a key mediating role in resolving the Arab-Israeli conflicts. Egypt recalled its ambassador to Tel Avivin November 2000 in protest of Israel's excessive use of force against unarmed Palestinians.
