39 Dead Bodies Found at NE Coal Mine

Thirty-nine dead bodies have been found at the Dingsheng Coal Mine in Hegang City, northeast China's Heilongjiang Province by 23:20 Monday, which was hit by a gas explosion Monday afternoon, said a local official.

Thirty-nine dead bodies have been found at the Dingsheng Coal Mine in Hegang City, northeast China's Heilongjiang Province by 23:20 Monday, which was hit by a gas explosion Monday afternoon, said a local official.

Gao Yun, director of the Hegang coal mining administration, said that the other four trapped miners are still not found. Their chances of survival are slim.

The number of trapped miners has been revised to 43 instead of the formerly revealed 44.

Leading local officials have rushed to the site of the accident and a rescue team of 30-strong people have started rescue operations. The Governor and a deputy governor of Heilongjiang Province has left for the mine.

The mine has an annual output of around 60,000 tons. The explosion occurred at around 15:00.
