S. Africa Treasures Relations with China: Deputy President

South African Deputy President Jacob Zuma said Monday in Durban that he attached great importance to the bilateral relations between South Africa and China.

South African Deputy President Jacob Zuma said Monday in Durban that he attached great importance to the bilateral relations between South Africa and China.

South Africa treasures its relationship with China, said the deputy president while he met with Yang Wenchang, special envoy ofthe Chinese government and vice foreign minister in the South African coastal city of Durban.

The two sides held cordial talks on the bilateral relations andissues of mutual interest. Zuma asked Yang to convey his cordial regards and best wishes to Chinese Vice President Hu Jintao.

He said that he had visited Beijing and Shanghai and he was deeply impressed about China's economic achievements. He expected to visit China again.

As the special envoy of the Chinese government, Yang is invitedto attend the 38th summit of the Organization of African Unity andthe inauguration of the African Union and pay a visit to South Africa.

Yang conveyed Chinese Vice President Hu Jintao's best regards to his South African counterpart during the meeting.

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and South Africa over four years ago, he said, the friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries have made continuous progress.

He said that Chinese President Jiang Zemin and his South African counterpart Thabo Mbeki had successfully exchanged visits and the two heads of state signed the Pretoria Declaration on Partnership between China and South Africa. The two sides had alsoofficially launched a bilateral committee.

The Chinese vice minister said that China attaches importance to the relations with South Africa and would like to make join efforts with South Africa to advance the Sino-South African partnership in the new century.
