China's Top Legislator Meets Vietnamese Parliamentarians

Chinese top legislator Li Peng said Tuesday that China hopes to strengthen its friendly relations with Vietnam.

Chinese top legislator Li Peng said Tuesday that China hopes to strengthen its friendly relations with Vietnam.

During his meeting with Cu Hoa Van, chairman of the Nationalities Committee of the Vietnamese National Assembly, Li, chairman of the Chinese National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, said China and Vietnam, as close neighbors, have maintained good relations and cooperation.

Communist Party and State leaders of the two countries had kept up exchanges and that had resulted in increased confidence, friendship and cooperation between the two neighbors, Li said.

China's parliament attached great importance to the growing exchanges and contacts with its counterparts in Vietnam, Li noted,saying that such exchanges and contacts would help strengthen bilateral friendship.

Li told Cu Hoa Van that China took the autonomy system in areas inhabited by people of ethnic groups as a basic political system since it developed equal, harmonious and mutually-helpful relations between different ethnic groups.

Cu Hoa Van said he and his delegation had witnessed tremendous achievements scored in China's reform and economic construction. He added that his visit would strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries.

The Vietnamese parliamentary delegation began its visit to China last Sunday.
