Hong Kong needs to enact legislation urgently to fulfill its international obligation in combating financing of terrorism, said a government spokesman Tuesday.

The spokesman of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) government said that many of the views put forward had already been discussed at the relevant Bills Committee in the past two months.

The spokesman pointed out that the administration had taken on board most of the comments made by the Bills Committee and the deputations.

"We will introduce a number of amendments to the bill when second reading debate resumes in the Legislative Council tomorrow," he said.

The spokesman noted that Committee Stage Amendments (CSAs) proposed by some Legco members would also be deliberated upon.

"We firmly believe that the bill, together with our Committee Stage Amendments, will strike a balance between curbing terrorism and protecting people's rights and freedoms," the spokesman said.
