The DPRK's Central Radio announced Tuesday that the DPRK would not oppose the raising of the sunken South Korean high-speed patrol boat 357, but insisted that it be notified in advance of the ships and equipment to be used, and the date and position of the operation.

It continued to say that Pyongyang's Panmujom representative made this statement, as it was necessary to ensure no further incidents occurred in the West Sea and the operation would be taking place in the DPRK's military controlled waters.

The ROK Navy boat was sunk five miles south of the Northern Limit Line and 14 miles west of Yeonpyeong Island on June 29.

South Korean related government ministries held a meeting to discuss the DPRK's announcement.

ROK NAvy officials said the recovery of the ship would take place at the end of September after the typhoon season was over. They said the water depth was only 20m, but the tide ran at 3.6 knots and so salvage would take up to two months.
