Albanian President Meidani Meets Chinese State Councilor

Visiting Chinese State Councilor WuYi discussed bilateral relations and cooperation with Albanian President Rexhep Meidani Thursday in Tirana.

Visiting Chinese State Councilor WuYi discussed bilateral relations and cooperation with Albanian President Rexhep Meidani Thursday in Tirana.

Wu Yi, who arrived in Tirana for a two-day official visit, said although the two countries and the world have experienced many changes, the Sino-Albanian friendly cooperation is being developed consistently, actively and steadily.

She expressed thanks to the Albanian government for adhering tothe one-China policy on the issues of Taiwan and Tibet.

Wu Yi said further development of mutually beneficial cooperation between China and Albania accords with the wishes and interests of the two countries. China is willing to cooperate with Albania in all fields on the basis of mutual respect and benefits in search for common ground, while acknowledging differences, she said.

She praised the Albanian government's efforts in stabilizing the Balkan country, restoring economy and improving the standard of living for the Albanian people.

Wu Yi said Albania, as an important country in Balkan and Eastern and Central European regions, would play a special role inthe region and the world as well.

President Meidani recalled his visit to China in 1999 and spoke highly of China's achievements in all fields. He said the Albanian government attached great importance to its relationship with China and supported the Chinese government in its efforts to unifyTaiwan within the "one country, two systems" guidelines.

Expressing his thanks for the Chinese government's support and assistance to Albania, Meidani hoped the two countries would strengthen their relations in the new century. He also invited Chinese entrepreneurs to invest in Albania.

The Albanian president believes Wu's visit will help promote bilateral relations, especially economic and trade cooperation.

Albania is the third leg of Wu's tour to Eastern and Central European countries. She has visited the Czech Republic and Poland.
