Sri Lanka and Pakistan will sign a framework Free Trade Agreement (FTA) in August during the visit of Pakistani President General Pervez Musharraf, the official Daily News said on Friday.

The ministerial level meeting on the draft FTA concluded Thursday following discussions by delegations led by Sri Lanka's Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs Ravi Karunanayake and Pakistan's Minister of Commerce, Industry and Production Abdul Razak Dawood.

It was decided to lift tariff barriers for the export of tea from Sri Lanka and to set up a joint venture in Pakistan to blend and distribute Sri Lankan tea. The removal of certain items from the no-concessions lists of the two countries was among other matters discussed.

Sri lanka has 1,288 items in the no concessions list while Pakistan's list comprises only 362 items. Sri Lanka has agreed to explore the possibility of revising its existing no-concessions list to redress concerns expressed by Pakistan, the newspaper reported.
