China's national women volleyball team beat Cuba in straight sets, 25-15, 25-23, 25-18, in the first leg of the Women Volleyball Grand Prix tournament starting off Friday in Chengdu.

The Chinese players totally controlled the pace of the 70-minute match through their brilliant services, fast attacks and net play, to give little chance for the Cuban girls to overturn.

The Chinese showed their solid back-court defense and accurate net blocks in this evening's contest. The Cuban players could not penetrate the effective blocks and made many unforced errors.

The only chance for the Cubans to win a game came in the secondset when they tied 23-23 with the Chinese. But the more experienced Chinese girls smashed the Cubans' hope after a short break.

China, Cuba, Russia and the United States are competing in this year's Grand Prix tournament first leg in Chengdu, China. The finals of the competitions will be held in China's Hong Kong on August 4.
