The Olympic Games Study Commission held a meeting in Lausanne at the weekend to discuss to reduce costs for the Summer and Winter games, the International Olympic Committee said on Monday.

The commission looked into ideas e-mailed to the IOC's website since May by fans, athletes and officials, and declared that some changes may be instigated as soon as the 2004 Games in Athens.

"It is crucial that we with our partners in the Olympic family have the courage to take decisions needed to ensure the Olympic Games, whilst remaining the world's greatest sporting event, are manageable," said IOC president Jacques Rogge.

The group first met prior to the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City earlier this year, and a full report into the investigations is set to be presented at the 115th IOC session in Prague in July 2003.
