Regarding the problems, Li Peng said it needs to adhere to the strategy of enlarging domestic demands and to launch an active and stable financial policy and currency policy as well. Meanwhile, it also needs to increase a bit currency supply, invest more in agriculture, technology reform, increase loans to medium and small enterprises and develop the service of credit and small amount of loans in urban and rural areas.

In regard to the employment and re-employment, Li Peng urged to create more employment opportunities with the preferential polices carried out for laid-off workers.

He noted greater efforts should be made on preventing natural calamities and guaranteeing production safety to maintain the social stability. He stressed the importance of flood prevention and rescue work in rainy season.

Li Peng concluded the economic development task in the second half year is hard. We should study and fulfill the important "5.31" remarks by President Jiang Zemin and make persistent efforts to embrace the opening of the 16th Party Congress.
