Foreign ministers from China and Saint Lucia held talks Tuesday discussing the further enhancement of the two countries' friendship and cooperation started five years ago.

Julian Hunte, Saint Lucia's minister of foreign affairs, international trade and civil aviation, began his official visit to China on Monday at the invitation of Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan.

Exchange and cooperation in political, economic, cultural and other fields between China and Saint Lucia have been fruitful since the two countries established their diplomatic relationship five years ago, Tang said.

Both sides agreed that the two countries should work closely and be mutually supportive in major international and regional affairs.

Tang expressed particular appreciation for the Saint Lucia government's adherence to the "one-China" policy on the Taiwan issue.

Julian Hunte reaffirmed that the government of Saint Lucia would strictly observe the "one-China" policy and support China's efforts towards reunification.

The two ministers signed an accord on economic and technological cooperation between China and Saint Lucia ahead of the talks.
