Egypt Keen to Enhance High-tech Cooperation with China: PM

Egyptian Prime Minister Atef Obeid said on Tuesday his country pays much attention to advancing its high-technology cooperation with China.

Egyptian Prime Minister Atef Obeid said on Tuesday his country pays much attention to advancing its high-technology cooperation with China.

Obeid made the remark during a meeting with a delegation from the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen, which is led by its Mayor YuYoujun, according to an official of the Chinese Embassy to Egypt.

Pointing out the good cooperation between the two countries in a variety of areas, Obeid said Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak visited some high-tech enterprises in Shenzhen during his visit to China in January.

President Mubarak's visit to Shenzhen demonstrated Egypt's willingness to promote its cooperation with China in high-tech field, the Obeid said.

He expressed his belief that relevant Egyptian sectors would enhance cooperation with Shenzhen, which is playing a leading role in the areas of new material, new energy and medical science.

For his part, Yu said Shenzhen is willing to promote cooperation with Egypt in economic, trade, scientific and technological areas.

He said that a group of business leaders from high-tech enterprises will visit Egypt next year to seek cooperation with their Egyptian counterparts, adding that Shenzhen will organize an exhibition of high-technology products in Egypt next year.

The Chinese delegation arrived here on Sunday for a six-day visit to Egypt.

On Monday, the delegation visited the Mubarak City of Science near the Mediterranean port city of Alexandria, during which it signed four agreements on cooperation in areas of new energy, telecommunications and agriculture.

    China and Egypt established diplomatic relations on May 30,1956. And the relationship between the two countries has been developing very smoothly. In the sixties, Premier Zhou Enlai visited Egypt three times. After that, President Li Xiannian, President Yang Shangkun, Premier Li Peng, Chairman of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Li Ruihuan, Vice Premier Zhu Rongji, Chairman of National People's Congress (NPC) Qiao Shi, President Jiang Zeming, Vice Premier and Foreign Minister Qian Qichen, etc. have visited Egypt one after another. From the Egyptian side, President Mubarak (seven times), Premier Gan Zoury , Speaker of People's Assembly Souour, etc. visited China. In April 1999,when Egyptian President Mubarak was visiting China, he signed a joint communique with Chinese President Jiang Zeming on establishing strategic cooperative relationship between Egypt and China.
