Israeli Chief of Staff Moshe Ya'alon warned Tuesday against any consideration of pulling the Israeli troops out of Palestinian-ruled areas of the West Bank.

Ya'alon told lawmakers at the Knesset (parliament) that a withdrawal at this time "would be tantamount to surrender," Israel Radio reported.

Ya'alon, 52, was made the military chief a week ago to replace Shaul Mofaz, who retired after 36 years in the army and four years as Chief of Staff.
