Chinese vice-premier Meets St Lucia FM

Chinese Vice-Premier Qian Qichen met in Beijing on Wednesday with Julian Hunte, St Lucia's minister of foreign affairs, international trade and civil aviation.

Chinese Vice-Premier Qian Qichen met in Beijing on Wednesday with Julian Hunte, St Lucia's minister of foreign affairs, international trade and civil aviation.

Qian said the two nations had maintained frequent and friendly contact since they forged diplomatic ties five years ago, with their mutual understanding and friendship constantly growing, and political, economic and cultural exchanges and cooperation bearing fruit. They had also supported and worked closely with each other in regional and international affairs.

Qian said the Chinese government was ready to work with St Lucia to promote bilateral ties.

He expressed appreciation for the St Lucia government's adherence to the "one China" principle on the Taiwan issue.

Julian Hunte pledged the willingness of the St Lucia government to develop ties and cooperate with China, reiterating it would strictly observe the "one China" policy.
