Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) returned home Friday after winding up his eight-day visit to Indonesia, Libya and Syria.

During his first stop, Kim met with Indonesian President Suharno Megawati on enhancing bilateral cooperation. And the two sides signed agreements on preventing double taxation and tax evasion on income, and on scientific and technological cooperationbetween the two countries.

During his visits to Libya and Syria, Kim reached consensus with the leaders of the two countries on strengthening bilateral friendship, cooperation and unity so as to confront outside interference in the internal affairs of their respective countries. The DPRK delegation also inked deals on economic and scientific cooperation with Libya and Syria respectively.

Kim Yong Nam also gained support from the three countries for the peace process on the Korean Peninsula.

Megawati, who paid an official visit to the DPRK in March, offered her full support for the inter-Korean dialogue aimed for the realization of peaceful reunification of the peninsula. The leaders of Syria and Libya also reiterated call for independent efforts by the Korean people on peaceful reunification without interference from outside forces.

It is widely believed that the DPRK is seeking to promote traditional good-neighborly ties with Libya and Syria to confront the hegemonic power of the United States.

In late January, US President George W. Bush labeled the DPRK as one of the "axis of evil" nations. In May, the US government listed seven nations as "countries sponsoring terrorism" and extended embargo on weapons against them, including the DPRK, Syria and Libya.
