Zhejiang Province Sees 12 Percent Midyear Economic Growth

Zhejiang, a coastal province in east China, has recorded a 12 percent economic growth rate during the first half of this year, official figures show.

Zhejiang, a coastal province in east China, has recorded a 12 percent economic growth rate during the first half of this year, official figures show.

Figures released Thursday by the province's Statistics Bureau show the gross domestic product reached 352 billion yuan ( 42.9 billion US dollars), 1.5 percent higher than the same period of 2001.

Zhejiang also netted 58.2 billion yuan (seven billion dollars) in fiscal revenue, up 28.4 percent.

Investment in fixed assets totaled 120.6 billion yuan (14.7 billion dollars) during the six months, or 23.5 percent higher than the corresponding period of last year.

Non-government investment amounted to 81.9 billion yuan (9.9 billion dollars), or 68 percent of the total.

Exports by the province reached 12.76 billion US dollars, 20.3 percent higher than the same period last year.
