Forum Held on Economy, Regional Security in Central Aisa

More than 80 scholars and diplomats from China and central Asia gathered in Urumqi capital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Thursday to discuss economic development and regional security in central Asia.

The two-day international meeting is expected to focus on the new challenges and trends in politics, economics, military, culture, technology, trade, people and religion in the region.

Thursday's discussion led to the conclusion that the five countries of central Asia -- Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan,Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan -- have remained politically stable since declaring independence a decade ago and had managed to emerge from the initial economic crisis.

Their further development depended on the regional peace and cooperation, agreed delegates at the conference organized by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Xinjiang regional government.

Participants from both China and the other countries were upbeat about expanding collaboration in trade and economy.
