Police in southwest China's Sichuan Province are able to consult with psychologists to help ease pressures of the job on a hotline, which was opened Friday July 19 by the Provincial Public Security Department.

Sources with the department said the high risk and high pressure nature of the occupation had led to psychological problems.

A new report jointly conducted by the department and Sichuan University concludes that five percent of the surveyed 100,000 policemen showed signs of mental problems such as disorientation.

Department officials are urging public security staff in the province to talk freely with psychologists by call, to prevent or overcome mental problems resulting from work.
