Israeli and Palestinian senior officials have begun their meeting Saturday evening in Jerusalem for talks on easing sanctions and harsh economic conditions of the Palestinians, Israel Radio reported.

The talks, scheduled earlier in the week, was postponed by the Israeli side led by Foreign Minister Shimon Peres due to Tuesday's shooting attack on a bus near a Jewish settlement in the West Bank,in which eight people were killed.

Palestinian and Israeli officials announced on Friday that both sides had decided to renew their stalled talks.

Earlier in the evening, Palestinian National Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat convened the team led by chief Palestinian negotiatorSaeb Erekat in his compound in the West Bank city of Ramallah to formulate a unified stance.

Israeli Minister Without Portfolio Danny Naveh, a member of the Israeli delegation, said Saturday all aid to the Palestinians must be conditional in order to prevent the funds from being used for terror activities.

The high-level Israeli-Palestinian talks were regarded as the latest diplomatic attempt to thaw frozen relations between the two sides durig the 22-month-old bloody conflict, in which some 1,400 Palestinians and 560 Israelis were killed.
