The hi-tech industry on China's mainland has become a major investment attraction for Taiwanese businessmen.

The output of electronic accessories and groupware from Taiwanese investments on the Chinese mainland has hit 600 billion new Taiwan dollars (18 billion US dollars), close to the output in Taiwan, statistics show.

Numerous Taiwanese hi-tech companies have invested in the Yangtze River Delta. Six out of Taiwan's top 10 notebook makers have set up offices in Kunshan, a city near Shanghai.

In the first four months of this year, Taiwanese businessmen invested a total of over 10 million dollars in some 20 companies specializing in semi-conductors and computers in Hangzhou and Ningbo in East China's Zhejiang Province.

Lu Deming, dean of economics at Fudan University, said the strengths of the Chinese mainland in human resources and technology plus the cheap labor force and land prices were the major attractions for Taiwanese businessmen.
