China, ROK Launch Joint Venture Seaport Project

China and the Republic of Korea (ROK) are building a joint venture seaport at Dalian City, in northeast China's Liaoning Province.

China and the Republic of Korea (ROK) are building a joint venture seaport at Dalian City, in northeast China's Liaoning Province.

The port project, with a yearly handling capacity of 950,000 tons, will take two years to construct at a cost of 377 million yuan.

The venture, built to international standards for an open port,will include a 10,000-ton berth and a 5,000-ton berth.

The joint venture term will last for 50 years, according to official sources.

Xu Changyuan, mayor of Zhuanghe City, near Dalian, said that the new facility was expected to become China's nearest port to its two neighbors, the ROK and Japan.
