Explosive Device Blows Up in Elevated Walkway in Tokyo

An explosive device blew up in a fire hose box early Wednesday in an elevated walkway in Tokyo's Koto Ward and no one was hurt, Japan's Kyodo News reported.

An explosive device blew up in a fire hose box early Wednesday in an elevated walkway in Tokyo's Koto Ward and no one was hurt, Japan's Kyodo News reported.

A 27-year-old guard heard the explosion, which occurred at around 1:40 a.m. in front of Kokusai-Tenjijo Seimon Station (TokyoInternational Exhibition Center Front Gate) of the Yurikamome Line,according to Kyodo.

Police found lead wires and dry-cell batteries near the explosion sight, leading them to determine that someone had installed the device, the report said.

The guard reportedly told police that he rushed to the site andfound that the stainless steel door of the box had blown off six meters and the hoses had fallen outside, adding he did not smell any gas or gunpowder.
