New GE Subsidiary Asia-Pacific Headquarters Unveiled in Shanghai

General Electric's Industrial Systems opened its Asia regional headquarters on Tuesday in Shanghai, China's leading industrial and commercial center.

General Electric's Industrial Systems opened its Asia regional headquarters on Tuesday in Shanghai, China's leading industrial and commercial center.

The group's headquarters has moved to Shanghai from Hong Kong.

To date, 11 major subsidiaries of GE, one of the world's leading electrical giants, have begun doing business in China.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Richard Pease, the group's global vice-president, said that the industrial group would take aseries of steps to expand business in China, which boasts the greatest market potential and opportunities in the world since itsentry into the World Trade Organization.

Great efforts would be made to introduce 25 new products, widenproduct range and develop services, expand purchasing in China andacquire Chinese companies that would help increase production capacity and products marketing, Pease said.

The group is keen to set up offices in all major provinces and cities of China in the next three years.

The group's interests in China would cover infrastructure construction, automobile manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, sewage treatment, metallurgy, cement, papermaking, and oil and gas pipe production, according to James Fisher, president and CEO of the group's Asia-Pacific regional business.

The group now manufactures more than 1,000 product lines. And its main products for China range from switches, motors and automatic controls to fire alarms, power systems and sensors.

Two other GE subsidiaries, GE Plastics and GE Lighting, have already moved their headquarters to Shanghai from Tokyo and Hong Kong respectively.
